NABARD introduces integrated farming model to help farmers in distress

National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, NABARD introduces an integrated farming model to help farmers in distress and reduce farmer suicides. The project is run in collaboration with Bengaluru and Dharwad centres of University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS).

The model aims to ensure farmers a regular income even during drought by setting up small scale businesses like poultry, pisciculture, aquaculture, fisheries, and shrimp farming on farm lands. These parallel initiatives can continue even during a drought to ensure a steady income in case of a widespread crop failure.

The model, which was launched last year, is gaining popularity in Karnataka, with many farmers are choosing the project. UAS has introduced a range of models like sericulture, fishing, growing vegetables, sheep rearing, beekeeping, poultry, rearing dairy animals, and many more, based on climatic and geographical particulars.
